Paths of Song CD

This beautifully produced CD, brought out in September by Signum Classics, features the spellbinding music of John Metcalf, the leading Welsh composer. Eleanor Turner's performance is central to the disc, as she plays with the Solstice String Quartet in 'Mapping Wales', clarinettist David Campbell and flautist Philippa Davies in 'Septet' and with cellist Nicola Thomas in 'Castell Dolbadarn'.

The recent Gramophone review was generous in its praise for the whole recording (which also featured the atmospheric playing of the brilliant Sacconi Quartet in the title piece, Paths of Song) but gave special mention to Eleanor's contribution:

Pwyll ap Sion, the reviewer, says "Benefiting from an agile and assured performance by harpist Eleanor Turner, who shines throughout the recording, Metcalf's lyricism is at its most expressive when such musical journeys are heard to return home."

This music warrants careful listening as it takes the audience on a journey through moods and landscapes - a wonderful escape. It is also beautiful to have playing in your home as you read, eat, lie in bed or do the ironing!
